Lima Airport Transfer Guide: Jorge Chávez to Miraflores, Barranco & San Isidro

Jorge Chávez International Airport (IATA: LIM) sits in Callao, roughly 16 km northwest of Miraflores and about 18 km from Barranco. On paper that is not far, but Lima traffic is notorious — the same journey can take 25 minutes at 11 pm or 80 minutes at 6 pm on a weekday. Choosing the right transfer option before you land saves time, money, and stress.

Here is a plain breakdown of every option, what it costs, and when each one makes sense.

Pre-Booked Private Transfers

For most first-time visitors, a pre-booked private transfer is the smoothest option. You pay online, your driver meets you in arrivals with a name board, and the price is fixed — no negotiating, no surprises.

Kiwitaxi offers fixed-price private transfers with free cancellation up to 24 hours before travel. Prices are quoted in USD at booking. Saloon cars and MPVs are available if you are travelling with large bags or as a group. Compare Kiwitaxi transfer prices for Lima.

GetTransfer works on a bid model — local operators compete for your booking, so you can often land a lower rate than fixed-price platforms. It covers Lima airport routes to all major districts. Compare transfer quotes on GetTransfer.

All three operators allow you to add extra stops (e.g. a supermarket in Miraflores) and the driver will help with luggage. None charge a surcharge for delayed flights.

Official Airport Taxis

Jorge Chávez has a regulated taxi service branded TAXI GREEN (green and yellow livery) operating inside the arrivals terminal. Fares are fixed by zone and posted at the taxi desk — approximately S/80–100 (USD 22–27) to Miraflores as of 2026. You pay at the counter and receive a receipt before getting in.

The key advantage is no pre-booking required — simply join the queue after clearing customs. The key disadvantage is that fares are slightly higher than Uber, and you cannot track the driver in an app. Still, TAXI GREEN is a legitimate, regulated option and the safest choice if you arrive without a prior booking.

Avoid drivers approaching you inside the terminal who are not part of the official service — unlicensed touts operate here and target confused-looking arrivals.

Uber and DiDi

Both Uber and DiDi operate at Lima airport. The pickup zone is on the ground floor outside the arrivals hall — follow signs for Aplicativos de Taxi or Taxis por App. Do not request a car before you are in the pickup zone, as drivers cannot wait on the approach road.

Fares to Miraflores typically run S/40–70 (USD 11–19) depending on demand and traffic. During peak hours or heavy rain, surge pricing can push fares higher. Always confirm the driver’s licence plate and photo in the app before getting in. Uber Select and Uber Black are available if you want a higher-spec vehicle.

DiDi often quotes slightly lower fares than Uber at off-peak times — worth checking both apps before requesting.

Airport Express Lima Bus

Airport Express Lima is the only dedicated airport coach service and the cheapest comfortable option for independent travellers. The bus departs from outside the arrivals terminal every 15–30 minutes, 24 hours a day, and runs directly along the Panamericana Sur to Miraflores — stopping near the JW Marriott, Larcomar shopping centre, and Kennedy Park.

Tickets cost approximately S/20–25 (USD 5–7) one way and can be bought from the driver or at the terminal kiosk. The coaches are air-conditioned with luggage bays underneath — a meaningful upgrade over colectivos.

The trade-off: journey time is longer than a private car because of the fixed stops, and the service drops you at the route’s stops rather than your hotel door. If your accommodation is more than a 10-minute walk from Kennedy Park, you will need to arrange onward transport.

Colectivos

Shared minibuses (colectivos) run from outside the airport perimeter into central Lima and Callao districts. Fares are extremely low (S/3–6) but the routes do not go directly to Miraflores, Barranco, or San Isidro, and journey times can exceed two hours with multiple stops. Luggage space is minimal and pickpocketing is a known risk on crowded colectivos.

We do not recommend colectivos for international arrivals, particularly with checked luggage or after a long-haul flight.

Late-Night Arrival Tips

Flights from North America and Europe often arrive at Lima between midnight and 5 am. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Traffic is lighter at these hours, so journey times are shorter — typically 25–35 minutes to Miraflores.
  • Pre-book your transfer if you can. The TAXI GREEN desk operates around the clock, but queues can build after a full widebody lands. Having a driver waiting with your name removes that friction.
  • Keep your ride confirmation on your phone (screenshot it, in case Wi-Fi is slow on arrival). Immigration and baggage claim can take 45–90 minutes at busy times — a good driver will wait.
  • Avoid the free Wi-Fi zone near arrivals for extended stops at night — this area attracts touts and opportunistic theft.
  • Miraflores is safe at night, but keep bags close in public areas and use in-app taxis rather than hailing on the street once you arrive.

Safety Advice

Lima has improved significantly as a destination for visitors, but the airport transfer is a moment of vulnerability — you are tired, possibly jet-lagged, and carrying luggage.

  • Only take taxis from the TAXI GREEN desk inside arrivals or via a rideshare app you requested yourself.
  • Never accept a ride offered by someone approaching you in the terminal.
  • Share your trip progress with someone back home using the Uber or DiDi live tracking feature.
  • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash through the arrivals hall — use an ATM inside the airport (Scotiabank and BCP both have machines pre-customs and post-customs).

Luggage Considerations

Jorge Chávez’s baggage carousels can be slow — allow 30–45 minutes after landing before your bags appear if the flight is full. Trolleys are available free of charge. All transfer options have boot/trunk space for standard suitcases. If you are travelling with oversized bags (surfboards, sports equipment, large backpacks), mention this at booking with Kiwitaxi or GetTransfer so they can assign a larger vehicle.

Getting Back to the Airport

All five options work equally well for the return journey. Book private transfers 24–48 hours in advance for early departures. Uber and DiDi surge in the early morning (4–6 am) when demand from flights clusters — pre-booking a Kiwitaxi or GetTransfer at a fixed rate can save money on the return.
