LATAM & Sky Cancel Lima & Arequipa Flights: August 7-8

LATAM Airlines and Sky Airline are cancelling multiple domestic and international flights at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima and Rodríguez Ballón International Airport in Arequipa on August 7 and 8, 2026. The cancellations are linked to operational constraints at both airports during a high-demand period. Affected travelers are being offered rebooking and, in some cases, refunds.

Which Routes Are Affected

LATAM has confirmed cancellations on Lima–Cusco, Lima–Arequipa, Lima–Trujillo, and Lima–Miami services across the two-day window. Sky Airline, which operates primarily domestic routes in Peru, has cancelled Lima–Cusco and Lima–Juliaca flights. The total number of affected flights across both carriers is estimated at 12 or more.

Rodríguez Ballón Airport in Arequipa is also reporting slot-related cancellations affecting both arrival and departure waves. Travelers connecting through Arequipa should verify their itinerary regardless of carrier.

What to Do If Your Flight Is Affected

LATAM passengers can check flight status at latam.com or via the LATAM app. Affected bookings show a rebooking option at no additional charge. If no suitable rebooked flight is available within 24 hours of your original departure, you are entitled to a full refund under Peru’s consumer aviation regulations.

Sky Airline passengers should contact the airline directly via their website or customer service line (+51 1 613 8811). The airline operates a smaller call centre and wait times are currently long — use the online chat option if available.

Impact on Cusco and Machu Picchu Visitors

The Lima–Cusco route is Peru’s busiest domestic corridor. Travelers with confirmed flights on these dates should check their booking status immediately. If your flight is cancelled and you cannot get a rebooked flight within an acceptable window, the bus option — Cruz del Sur operates Lima–Cusco overnight services taking 21–22 hours — is a backup, though not viable for short-trip itineraries.

Machu Picchu entrance tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable to different dates. If a flight cancellation threatens your Machu Picchu visit, contact Peru’s Ministry of Culture ticketing portal (machupicchu.gob.pe) to understand your options — in documented cases of transport disruption, date changes have occasionally been accommodated.

Expected Resolution

Airport authorities expect operational conditions to normalise from August 9 onward. Travelers departing after August 8 are not currently affected by the cancellation wave, though schedule compression from rebooking may cause minor delays on August 9–10. Check your flight status on the day of travel regardless.
