Peru Drops Paper TAM Card: Digital Pre-Registration Required

Peruvian passport control and entry documentation

Peru’s immigration authority (Migraciones) has replaced the paper Andean Tourist Card (Tarjeta Andina de MigraciΓ³n, TAM) with a mandatory digital pre-registration system for all arriving international visitors. Travellers are now required to complete an online form before their arrival rather than filling in a paper card on the plane or at the border.

What Has Changed

Until 2026, most visitors to Peru filled in a paper TAM card during their flight or at land border crossings. This card recorded basic travel information - passport details, intended length of stay, accommodation address - and was collected on departure.

The new digital system requires travellers to register this information through Peru’s official Migraciones portal before travel. Upon arrival, border agents check the digital registration rather than collecting a paper form. The information required is broadly the same as before: passport number, nationality, flight or crossing details, intended stay duration, and first-night accommodation address.

What You Need to Do

Complete the online pre-registration on the Migraciones website before your departure date. The form is available in Spanish and English. You will need:

  • A valid passport (matching the document you will present at entry)
  • Your flight details (airline and flight number, if arriving by air)
  • The address of your first night’s accommodation in Peru

After completing the form, save or print the confirmation. Some travellers have reported that border staff ask to see the confirmation number, though this varies by entry point.

The digital system does not replace a visa for nationalities that require one for Peru - standard visa requirements remain in effect.

Border and Airport Entry

Most international visitors enter Peru through Lima’s Jorge ChΓ‘vez International Airport (LIM) or by land from Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, or Colombia. Pre-registration is required for all entry points. Land border crossings in more remote areas may have limited connectivity for officers to verify registrations - carry a printed copy of your confirmation as backup.
