Paracas eating is almost entirely about seafood, and that is not a limitation — the Humboldt Current makes this stretch of the South American Pacific coast one of the most biologically productive in the world. The fish that arrives in Paracas each morning is startlingly fresh. Restaurants cluster along the El Chaco waterfront road; quality is relatively consistent because the supply chain is short.

El Chorito

The most popular restaurant in Paracas proper, El Chorito on El Chaco serves the full range of coastal Peruvian seafood at consistently good quality. The conchitas al ajo (scallops with garlic and butter, approximately PEN 32–40 as of 2026) are the house specialty — Paracas Bay scallops are farmed locally and available year-round. The ceviche mixto (mixed seafood ceviche, PEN 45–58) and the tiradito de lenguado (sole ceviche in a different leche de tigre style, PEN 42–52) are both excellent. Open daily from 11:00 am–6:00 pm.

Restaurante Vendaval

On the El Chaco waterfront with a terrace facing the bay, Vendaval has strong presentation and higher prices than its neighbours. The tasting platter (tabla de mariscos for two, approximately PEN 120–145 as of 2026) includes a rotation of ceviches, causa rellena, and grilled shellfish. Wine and pisco sour pairing options available. The sunset from the terrace makes this the romantic choice for evening meals in Paracas — though note the kitchen closes at 8:00 pm.

La Mía Pizza & Pasta

For a break from seafood, La Mía on Avenida Paracas offers handmade pasta (approximately PEN 28–42 as of 2026) and wood-fired pizzas (PEN 38–55). The mussels in white wine sauce (PEN 32–40) bridge both worlds. A practical option for groups where not everyone wants fish. Open daily from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Deliveries within Paracas town available.

Don Félix

A small family-run comedor (lunch restaurant) one block back from the main waterfront, Don Félix serves the most authentic local cooking in Paracas at the lowest prices. The daily set menu (soup, main, drink) costs approximately PEN 14–18 as of 2026. The chicharrón de pescado (fried fish pieces) is the standard order; arroz con leche (rice pudding) is the typical dessert. No English menu; open weekdays from 8:00 am–4:00 pm only.

Hotel Paracas Restaurant

The restaurant at the Hotel Paracas (the Marriott property) is open to non-guests for lunch and dinner. The kitchen is the most technically accomplished in Paracas — the chefs have Lima training and access to a larger cold-chain supply. Mains run approximately PEN 65–95 as of 2026; the grilled lenguado with native potato purée (PEN 72–85) is worth the premium if you want a serious dinner. Reservations preferred for dinner. The bay view from the restaurant terrace is the best in town.

Kokopelli Bar & Kitchen

The kitchen at Kokopelli hostel serves food throughout the day to guests and non-guests — the best budget meals in the bar are the fish tacos (PEN 18–24 for three as of 2026) and the shared fish platter (PEN 55–70 for two). The pisco sours (PEN 18–22) are well-made and the happy hour (5:00–7:00 pm) brings the Ballestas Island boat crowd together for the evening. Open daily from 7:30 am.

Seafood Stalls at the Pier

The small wooden stalls clustered around the Paracas pier sell the cheapest ceviche in town — ceviche de pescado or mixto served in plastic cups for approximately PEN 12–20 as of 2026. Quality varies; the best indicator is freshness of the fish on display. These are strictly midday operations — arrive between 11:00 am and 1:30 pm for the freshest stock.

La Trattoria del Puerto

An Italian-Peruvian restaurant on the waterfront with a wood-fired oven, La Trattoria serves a hybrid menu that takes the best of both traditions. The seafood linguine (approximately PEN 45–58 as of 2026) with local clams, prawns, and cherry tomatoes is the menu’s best crossover dish. Grilled octopus (PEN 48–62) is well-executed. Service can be slow — factor this in if you have an afternoon boat tour.

Practical Notes

  • Timing: The best seafood restaurants focus on lunch (12:00–3:30 pm). Many reduce or close their kitchen in the evening. Plan your main meal at midday.
  • Leche de tigre: The marinade liquid from ceviche is served as a small drink (shot glass) alongside the plate at good restaurants and is considered a hangover cure locally. It is excellent for its own sake.
  • Bring cash: Most small restaurants and pier stalls are cash-only. The closest ATM is in Pisco (15 km) — withdraw before you arrive in Paracas.
  • Combine food and wildlife: Paracas boat tours to the Ballestas Islands typically return by midday — book a waterfront lunch afterwards for fresh catches.
  • Allergy awareness: Cross-contamination is not well understood in smaller kitchens. If you have a fish or shellfish allergy, choose hotels with controlled kitchens.

Frequently Asked Questions

What seafood is best in Paracas?
The Humboldt Current running along Peru's southern coast brings cold, nutrient-rich water that produces exceptional seafood. Corvina (sea bass), lenguado (sole), conchas negras (black clams), pulpo (octopus), and cangrejo (crab) are the local specialties. Scallops (conchas de abanico) from Paracas Bay itself are farmed locally and are a regional highlight — look for conchitas al ajo (scallops with garlic butter).
Is food expensive in Paracas?
Mid-range compared to Lima and Cusco. A ceviche main at a good waterfront restaurant costs approximately PEN 40–60 as of 2026. The cheapest eating is at the small comedores (basic lunch restaurants) off the main strip, where set lunches cost approximately PEN 12–18. The hotel restaurants charge Lima prices — PEN 65–95 per main — and are not necessarily better quality.
Are there vegetarian options in Paracas?
Limited but possible. Salads, pasta, and rice dishes are available at most restaurants. El Chorito and Kokopelli's kitchen do decent vegetarian plates on request. The best vegetarian eating is at the hotel restaurants which have broader menus — confirm in advance.
